The human expression of "Ahhh" usually indicates a positive experience. When our vision, hearing, taste, basically anything beyond the norm causes a positive emotion we often find ourselves "Ahhhing" in some form.
How The Day Began
Today was full of "Ahhhs" beginning with the 67 degree temperature. For the first few hours of riding we felt the chill of cool air on our faces as we rode across the Texas country side. When we stopped for a quick fuel up and break Margaret and I both had that "Ahhh" moment together.
Bolivar Street BBQ
Next stop was at one of our favorite BBQ riding destinations that we have posted about before. Boliver Street BBQ in Sanger, TX. For whatever reason the char on the brisket was exceptional today and after the first bite we both looked at each other and had another "Ahhh" moment. The next "Ahhh" came from the juicy Jalapeño sausage. It's always good and eating it brought a smile to my face. A lot of other riders had the same thought of coming here as the street outside was filled with bikes.
Ride Around Lake Ray Roberts
Heading out on full stomachs we rode the roads around Lake Ray Roberts. Taking FM-455 across the dam is an exceptional ride and as we crossed it you could smell the cool moisture coming off the lake. The temperature dropped a few degrees as well and again that "Ahhh" sensation came upon us. The north end of the lake on FM-922 has some great riding across multiple bridges over the lake. We rode west on FM-922 which brought us into Valley View, TX for our next "Ahhh" moment.
Whiskey Hollow Distillery
In Valley View, TX we stopped at Whiskey Hollow Distillery to try a finger of their Texas Gold Bourbon. Their bourbon has won multiple awards and I have been wanting to give it a try. The very first sip brought another "Ahhh" and an "OMG" as well. This was probably the absolute best bourbon I have ever tasted. Due to Covid restrictions we couldn't stay in the distillery to drink our Texas Gold Bourbon. We were able to sit in the park in the town center and enjoy our drink and take in the wonderful day we were having. It was kind of interesting because as we sat there drinking our bourbon a lot of other people were doing the same thing. The town center became something of a Whiskey Hollow Bourbon outdoor tasting area! The bourbon was so good Margaret talked me into purchasing a bottle. It was expensive but it will be nice to have more of those bourbon "Ahhh" moments at home.
The Unexpected
Sometimes when were out riding the unexpected surprise happens. This time it was a classic car show in Decatur, TX. Riding through the Decatur town square we found ourselves in the midst of some very beautiful classic cars. This provided the perfect break from riding and we spent an hour or so meandering amongst the cars having more "Ahhh" moments to add to the day before heading home.
Ahhh
Yup, that about sums up the entire day!
