While browsing the Get Lowered Cycles website, I found the Hardbagger Top Shelf Saddlebag Organizer and was curious about it. They sent me an organizer with the multi-fit handgun insert to do a review on. I wanted to be thorough and fair about the product so other riders could benefit from the item. Before ordering, be sure to decide which side you want to put it in. They are designated for left or right because they are molded specifically for each side. Options for both OEM Harley Touring and OEM Harley soft-style bags are available.
Getting Started
Margaret and I set up the camera and sound recording in the garage in preparation for the review. You need a Philips screwdriver, a drop of red lock tight, and maybe a pair of pliers for the installation. The organizer comes with a Torx bit that fits perfectly onto the rear saddlebag screw that has to be removed and replaced with a longer screw and mount, which is included with the kit. The pliers would be to grab the Torx bit to get it loose for removal. Once removed, it is replaced with a Philips head screw that holds the mount in place for the organizer to rest on.
For the final part of the installation, you replace the washer on the saddlebag clip with a larger one that comes with the organizer, which will hold the other side firmly into place. It really is that simple and can be done in less than a couple of minutes.
A Great Way To Organize
The organizer by itself is very useful. It comes with a rubber liner so you can fill it with miscellaneous items that might normally fall into the bottom of your saddlebag. This allows you to open your saddlebag lid and have those items in one place with easy access. This eliminates having to dig around in your saddlebag to find them. I always keep my phone, GoPro batteries, spare glasses, and other items in my saddlebag, and the Top Shelf Organizer will keep those in one place.
Great For Holding Firearms
Get Lowered Cycles also sent the Glock Multi-fit Foam Insert Kit to try out. It is constructed of foam and has a pre-cut template shape, a Glock semi-automatic that you just push out. You sit the foam insert into the organizer, and it fits perfectly and is snug. I don’t have a Glock but found the insert held my Ruger American 9mm to near perfection. The insert also has a slot for an extra mag. The slot has finger holes on both sides for easy mag removal. Finally, it comes with a foam cover that can be placed over the top securing the firearm from visibility when opening the saddlebag lid and completely encompassing the firearm in non-scratch foam.
Road Testing
On the road, the organizer and insert performed perfectly. We put in over 250 miles on the bikes over a couple of days to put it through the test. I kept both Ruger and an extra mag in the insert the entire time. We also intentionally went on some rougher than usual roads to check how well the insert held the pistol. Neither pistol nor mag ever bounced or came out of the insert.
This was a great product that I will continue using when we ride. Other types of inserts available are pre-cut for specific items like phones and glasses that might be useful.
